Functional Communication Training: Giving Every Child a Voice

Communication is one of the most powerful tools we have—but for many individuals with autism, expressing wants, needs, or feelings can be challenging. Our Functional Communication Training (FCT) program focuses on helping children develop reliable, appropriate ways to communicate.

What is FCT?

FCT teaches individuals to use words, pictures, signs, or devices to express themselves. The goal is to replace challenging behaviors—like tantrums or aggression—with effective, understandable communication.

Benefits Include:

  • Reduced frustration and behavioral issues

  • Increased ability to participate in learning and social situations

  • Greater independence and self-advocacy

  • Improved relationships at home and school

Whether your child is learning to speak, sign, or use an AAC device, FCT gives them the tools to connect with the world around them.
