Community-Based Instruction: Helping Individuals Thrive in Real-World Settings

At Whitestone Health, we know that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom or therapy space—it extends into everyday life. That’s why Community-Based Instruction (CBI) is such a vital part of our ABA therapy services.

What is CBI?

CBI involves structured learning experiences that happen in real-world community settings like grocery stores, libraries, parks, or public transportation. Our clinicians accompany clients into these spaces and teach practical skills such as navigating aisles, ordering food, or practicing safety in public environments.

Why it Matters:

  • Builds real-world independence

  • Reinforces social and adaptive behaviors in meaningful settings

  • Reduces anxiety around unfamiliar places or routines

  • Increases confidence and functional life skills

CBI helps individuals with autism apply what they’ve learned in therapy to the world around them—empowering them to live more independently and confidently.
